What We Do

We help children decrease their risk of developing obesity, chronic disease or injury.

Physical activity is a fun, creative and inexpensive way to motivate young people to practice healthy lifestyle habits. These habits can help to prevent a variety of illnesses and obesity. All activities in our children’s program improve cardio vascular health, breathing, muscular and skeletal strength, flexibility, coordination and agility. We offer 60 minute structured exercises classes that actually help to decrease risk factors for developing obesity or heart related diseases.

We help adolescents reduce aggression, control impulsive behavior and increase self esteem.

We use traditional martial arts training as a preventative health practice and therapeutic intervention for adolescents at high risk for violence and delinquency. We use karate, which is a form of martial arts, to teach a basic philosophical framework for respecting self and others, self-regulation, service to others and confronting challenges in a nonaggressive manner. We use the traditional movement based practices, called Kata, that provide immediate benefits to cognitive functioning. We teach karate in a safe, structured and disciplined environment under the guidance of experienced instructors.

We develop structured physical activity programs

All kids deserve an opportunity to engage in fun, safe and structured physical activity. We provide support for integrating a martial arts or fitness based program as an alternative for improving physical and psychological health. We create an environment where students have to be mentally and physically engaged, display appropriate behavior and a respectful attitude, and control their aggression.  We provide programs tailored to each partner to ensure a successful integration of our training programs.

We change the physical landscape of a high crime neighborhoods.

The vacant homes that we target were once used for drug activity. Our current control over the 1200 and 1100 block of Collington Ave has positively disrupted the normal drug activity of that neighborhood. A space that was once used to engage in drugs is now a thriving health center attracting a variety of visitors from within and outside of the neighborhood. Our presence has increased the safety of the neighborhood. There is no longer any drug trafficking activity in the 1200 block of Collington Ave due to the positive and respectful relationships we have built with everyone in our community.
