We are focused on improving the school-to-work pipeline by preparing high school boys to enter the construction industry by teaching them basic carpentry skills.

PROGRAM SUMMARY

BUILDCOR is an immersive carpentry skills training program tailored specifically for young men aged 13 to 19. This initiative aims to provide early exposure to the basic principles of framing construction.

Participants engage in a series of hands-on workshops that offer valuable early exposure to a variety of carpentry tools, techniques, materials, and methods, all while emphasizing the importance of safety in the workshop environment.

Developed through a collaborative partnership between Modu-Tech and COR Construction, BUILDCOR uses our industry experience to create a career pathway for young students.

PROGRAM CONCENTRATION

This program emphasizes the core competencies required for rough framing carpentry, focusing on the following aspects:

Measuring, Cutting, and Fastening Materials

Students will learn how to accurately measure and cut various types of construction materials, including lumber and plywood. They will also explore different fastening techniques, such as using nails, screws, and adhesives.

Essential Tools for Rough Framing

Participants will become familiar with fundamental carpentry tools used in rough framing, such as saws, hammers, levels, and drills. They will gain hands-on experience in using these tools effectively and safely.

Foundational Materials

Students will understand the different types of materials used in rough framing, including dimensional lumber, engineered wood products, and additional construction supplies. Emphasis will be placed on identifying the right materials for specific applications.

Understanding Framed Wall Assemblies

The program will provide insights into the components of framed wall assemblies, including studs, plates, headers, and sheathing. Students will learn how these components work together to create structurally sound walls.

General and Tool Safety Training

Participants will receive instruction on safety protocols, personal protective equipment (PPE), and best practices for preventing accidents in the workshop environment.
